This Valentine’s Day is a great time to show some Self Love. After a rigorous January filled with resolutions and goals, February 14th is the perfect day for reflection on successes and triumphs (even if you didn’t accomplish everything on your list). Focusing on self love and gratitude will create open space for staying focused on the things that are most important. Here’s my go to list for loving myself this Valentine’s Day.
Start a gratitude journal. I know, I know….. You’ve heard this before and you just don’t see the point. It’s really easy to get caught up in the negative with so much bad news shoved in our faces all day (social media). So, why not just say thank you on a daily basis. Being thankful can really shift your perspective and make room positive change if you give it a try. You may have a lot more good in your life than you think.
Aveda oils. Love, love, love these oils. They are a nice pick me up for when I need a boost. I use Aveda Stress Fix and Patchouli which both smell great and reset my mood. Wear them like perfume, add a few drops to your bath, massage them in your scalp before bed, drop a few drops on your pillow. So. Many. Uses.
Don’t forget about a little “me time.” With so many obligations these days, it’s hard to make time for yourself. But, doing something nice for yourself can really go a long way. Go get your favorite coffee, take yourself out to dinner (or go with a friend), go for a walk or hike (being in nature is so awesome), listen to your favorite music. Try to let go of some distractions and give yourself a big pat on the back for being you.
Do something good for someone in need. Let’s be honest-doing something good for someone just makes you feel good. Yes, yes, it’s also good for the other person. Buuuuuut, don’t deny yourself that big huge hug you feel after you’ve given your time to someone in need. You will burst with gratitude and self love which can brighten you up for weeks!
So, Valentine, go out and make this Valentine’s Day one for the books by focusing on self love. Forget the stress of the perfect hand crafted cards for your kids class or making that overly complicated special dinner. Keep it simple and give yourself a little extra TLC…
